These tanks are used to immobilize the fish in order to make marking or any other operations easier (measuring length, observation of abnormalities, etc. ...), without chemical products.

The device consists essentially of two electrodes set face to face in a tank of insulating material. The paralysis of the fish is due to an electric field generated in the water between two electrodes by a voltage generator.

The voltage generator, powered by a rechargeable Ni-Cd, provides different voltages selectable by a switch to adjust the field to the size and species of fish.

The fish recovers from anesthesia without any after-effect as soon as it is taken away from the electric field. It can be released immediately.

The device is made up of a power supply and a tank equipped with a fixed electrode and a mobile electrode. The mobile electrode reduces length of the tank to adjust the electrical field to the fish. Battery range is about 10 hours for a freshwater at 500µS/cm on a tank of 1m with a water depth of 10cm.

We offer different sizes of tank to fit the size of fish handled.

  • HDPE tank (shape 1/2 cylinder) of 55 cm x 16 cm x 8cm for fish from a few centimeters to 1 m.
  • HDPE tank (shape 1/2 cylinder) of 105 cm x 25 cm x 14cm for fish up to 1 m.
  • PVC custom tank (trapezoidal cross-section) from 50 x 12.5 x 11 cm to 150 x 12.5 x 11cm

The generator can supply any length of tank.

Note: The battery is a Nickel Cadmium system, which can be stored without use for long time regardless of the state of charge.
